Mercedes Bresso
Economist, MEP and former President of Piedmont.

Elected MEP in 2014 on the PD list, she was a member of the Committees for Regional Development and Constitutional Affairs. Professor of Economics at the Polytechnic of Turin, she taught in Pavia, Udine and at the University of Turin. Expert in Environmental Economics, she is the author of books and essays, the latest Ecological Economics published by Jaca Book (new edition 2021). Among her presidencies are the World Federation of United Cities (FMCU), the World Coordination of City Associations (CAMVAL) and Metrex, network of European metropolitan areas. She also chaired the Conference of Franco-Italian Alps (CAFI). She is Grand Officer of the Order of Merit of the Republic. In 1985 she entered the Regional Council for the first time and in 1994-1995 she was appointed regional councilor for Territorial Planning and Parks. From 1995 to 2004, president of the Province of Turin and of the Union of Piedmontese Provinces. First elected to the European Parliament in 2004, from 2005 to 2010 president of the Piedmont Region.
